Carrier Oils

Carrier Oils are vegetable oils (typically extracted via expeller or cold pressed from the seeds, nuts, or kernels of plants).

Most Carrier Oils -- also known as non-volatile “Fixed Oils” -- are unscented or naturally lightly-scented, non-toxic, and non-irritating oils. They are commonly used to “carry” essential oils, which if applied undiluted may irritate the skin. The general rule of thumb is to use a 1% to 3% dilution of essential oil in a carrier oil.

Carrier Oils help to moisturize, nourish, and protect the skin. Moreover, many are used as food ingredients. They are used in many applications including:

Here are some factors to consider when choosing a carrier oil for topical application to the skin or hair

01
    ●  Skin type: Some carrier oils are better suited for certain skin types than others. For example, Jojoba Oil is a good choice for hair care as the wax esters mimic our scalp's natural sebum, whereas marula oil is light and fast absorbing, making it ideal for facial application.
    ●  Essential oil aroma: The properties of the essential oil you are using should also be considered when choosing a carrier oil. For example, if you are using an essential oil with a relatively light scent, such as lavender oil, you may want to choose a carrier oil with a milder aroma, such as Sweet Almond Oil.
    ●  Desired effects: Some carrier oils may have specific benefits that you may be looking for. For example, Rosehip Oil contains Vitamin A, essential for collagen production, collagen being a protein that gives the skin its structure and elasticity. Argan Oil, a rich source of vitamins A, E, and K, as well as essential fatty acids, might a good choice for skin and hair that needs to be moisturized.

        ●  Personal preference: Ultimately, the best carrier oil for you is the one that you feel most comfortable with and that works best for your skin. Some of the most popular oils used for topical application are:
